New roofs & re-roofing in Brighton
A beautiful, durable roof that protects your home for years.
We will work with your budget and schedule to create a beautiful, durable roof that will protect you, your family and your investment for years to come. A new roof is stripped back to the rafters, any tired timbers are dealt with, and new breathable membrane and treated battens go on before the slates or tiles.
Brighton and Hove have a lot of slate roofs, from Victorian terraces to post-war semis, and we re-slate and re-tile all of them, along with extensions, bungalows and garages. We'll talk you through the options, give you a clear estimate and book the work in for a date that suits you.

What a new roof includes
- Strip & inspectThe old covering removed and the rafters checked, with any problem timbers dealt with.
- Membrane & battensNew breathable roofing membrane and treated battens, set out properly for the slate or tile.
- Slate & tileNatural and man-made slates, concrete and clay tiles, laid and fixed to suit the roof.
- Ridges, hips & valleysNew ridges and hips, and valleys lined so water runs off where it should.
- Flashings & abutmentsWhere the roof meets a wall or chimney, sealed with new lead or the right flashing.
- Roofline to finishNew fascias, soffits and gutters fitted at the same time if you want them.
Signs it's time for a new roof
- Repairs needed every winter, in different places
- Lots of slipped, cracked or delaminating slates
- Felt that's torn or crumbling in the loft
- A sagging or uneven roof line
- Tiles that are porous, flaking or covered in moss
- Nail fatigue: slates sliding out across the whole roof

What customers say
Our roof was in a terrible state - 25 years of patches and cheap repairs. Paul picked up my call straight away and was very clear about what they offered and what price ranges would be involved. … The end-result was great.
I can't recommend Paul and his team enough. His quote was very competitive and at every stage they let us know what was going on, even discussing some additional work that needed doing and agreeing a reasonable price for it. Throughout the job all his team, including the scaffolding company, were polite, respectful and clean. A very professional outfit doing a very professional job.
Goldhawk Roofing were reliable, responsive, prompt, tidy and friendly. … The guys did a complete survey providing photos so we could see the problem that needed repairing. So a good experience and happy to recommend.

New roofs & re-roofing questions
How long does a re-roof take?
It depends on the size of the roof and the weather. We'll give you a realistic timescale with your estimate, and keep the roof watertight every night while the work is going on.
Do I need planning permission to replace my roof?
Usually not if you're replacing like for like. If you live in a conservation area or a listed building, or want to change the material, check with your council first. In Brighton & Hove that's Brighton & Hove City Council.
Can you replace the fascias and gutters at the same time?
Yes. While the scaffold is up it's the ideal time to renew fascias, soffits, gutters and downpipes, and we do all of that ourselves.
