Brighton's Victorian and Regency houses have a lot of chimneys, many shared between terraces and most taking the full force of the wind and salt off the sea. Crumbling pointing, cracked flaunching and loose pots are some of the most common jobs we do in the city.

We repoint and rebuild stacks, fit new pots and caps, and renew the lead flashings where the chimney meets the roof. If a chimney is no longer used we can take it down below the roof line. Listed buildings and conservation areas may need consent first, and we're happy to talk that through.

Can you remove a chimney I no longer use?

Yes. We can take an unused stack down below the roof line and slate or tile over it, so there's one less thing to maintain. If you want the chimney breast inside removed too, that needs proper support, and we'll talk you through it.

Why is my chimney breast damp?

Usually it's water getting in at the top or at the flashings: a cracked cap or flaunching, worn pointing or a failed lead flashing. We'll find the cause and fix it.

Do I need scaffolding for chimney work?

Most chimney work needs scaffolding or a chimney scaffold to do it safely. We'll include it in your estimate.
